The canton was established in 1500. It was during this year when the first settlers were recorded to have stayed in Santa Ana. The very first land owner, Jeronimo de Retes, had the great opportunity of naming his land Santa Ana. History has it that eh named his land in honor of the St. Ann.
Some say he got the name from his late wife. Up to this day many speculations are passed around from generations to generates. The name Santa Ana had evolved from the name of the land of Jeronimo de Retes to the official name of the city. On the other hand, the city is also rich when it comes to religious heritage.
It was during the year 1850 that the first Catholic chapel was built. Locals from the city say that the chapel was built also in honor of St. Ann. When visiting Santa Ana, be sure to stop by the famous tourist destinations including the Simón Bolivar Park, the Salitral spring, and the Catarata del Brasil waterfalls.
The Salitral spring has been noted all over the world for the health qualities of its clear waters.
