Tibás, literally meaning "beautiful river" and "hot", is the thirteenth canton of Costa Rica is well loved by its locals and also by tourists who have been there and are now scheduling another tour and visit. And why wouldn’t they? The beautiful canton of Tibás has not only captured their hearts, it also made them one with themselves and one with nature. Indeed, Tibás is one of the world’s most sought after travel destinations.
The word Tibás is actually an Indian word. Tibás stands for beautiful river and hot, which is true since here is where you see three of the most rivers in Costa Rica. It was names such by its first settler, Cristóbal Chaves, during the late years of the 16th century. In Tibás you can see the gorgeous Torres River, Rivera River, and the famous Virillia River.
On the west side of Tibás you can find posh hotels and dining places and other commercial shops. This area also houses the famous coffee shops of not only Tibás, but also of Costa Rica. With an average daily temperature of a cool and calming 20 degrees Celsius, the canton’s climate is more than perfect for tour groups, walks within the town square, shopping, and simply looking and around and enjoying Tibás.
If you are coming from the province San Jose, all you need is a three kilometer travel and you will easily reach Tibás. With its total land area of 8.17 square kilometers, the fair canton is filled with fine shops for souvenir shopping, restaurants, and hotels. The latest survey shows that their total numbers of locals are more then 82,000.
