Panama Viejo is the name that receives the archaeological site where the city of Panama was located from its foundation in 1519, until 1671. It is located between Coco del Mar and Costa del Este. His first name was Our Lady of the Assumption of Panama. The city was moved to a new location, about ten kilometres south-west, as it was destroyed after an attack by the English pirate Henry Morgan in the early 1670s. From the original city, considered the first European settlement on the peaceful coast of America, there are today several ruins that make up this archaeological site.
