Where it is, and why it matters: La Guácima is on many people's maps for a very practical reason: it shortens the commute, and shortens it in the right direction.
Just 5 minutes from Automercado, 6 minutes from Country Club Los Reyes, 5 minutes from GSD International School, 25 minutes from Lindora and Santa Ana Corporate Parks, 20 minutes from El Coyol Free Trade Zone, and 60 minutes from Marina Los Sueños at Herradura Beach.

Three things that aren't obvious until you live here:
You go against the flow of traffic. If you work in the Coyol free trade zones, you head west while half of the Central Valley is heading towards San José. It's not a marketing gimmick—it's geography working in your favor every morning.
Schools are already sorted. GSD International School, an International Baccalaureate school, is right here in La Guácima. And Country Day School, part of the Nord Anglia network with an American curriculum and AP program, is in San Rafael de Alajuela on Route 27. An IB school in the neighborhood and an American school just minutes away. Most families who move to Costa Rica end up organizing their entire lives around this.
This is horse country. Santa Clara Polo Club, equestrian center, stables, cricket field, and the Los Reyes golf course are all within the same radius. It's a country lifestyle that simply doesn't exist in the towers of Escazú or Rohrmoser, and it's rare to find just fifteen minutes from the airport.

And as a bonus: being west of the Valley on Route 27 means that heading to Jacó or Herradura on a Friday afternoon doesn't involve going through San José.
